Screwballs (1983)

[7]

Screwballs and others of its ilk were one of few ways a teenager could hope to ‘sneak a peek’ in the pre-internet days. Today, boobs are just a mouse click away, and you don’t have to be coy about it, either — you can go right into the hard stuff. This makes it difficult for some to appreciate the teenage sex comedy, a genre that rose and fell (pun intended?) between 1980 and 1985. Roger Corman, ever the opportunist, tried to cash in on the craze with this Canadian co-production about five horny high school boys who make a pact to deflower Purity Busch, T&A High’s last virgin. What sets Screwballs apart is its madcap tone. It’s a wall-to-wall, unabashed cartoon farce that delivers more than its fair share of ridiculous scenarios, dirty jokes and prurient jiggles. It’s the Looney Tunes of sex comedies.
