Supergirl (1984)
[6]
Supergirl is good cheese, one of those ‘so bad it’s good’ kind of movies. You’ve got Faye Dunaway vamping out as a frustrated witch living in an abandoned amusement park, smokey voiced Brenda Vaccaro as her wise-cracking sidekick, a total waste of Peter O’Toole, and a whole bunch of monstrous threats hindered by budget constraints. Take for example Supergirl’s exciting battle with… a tractor. Or her other battle with an invisible demon. As silly as these scenes sound, they’re actually amusing in an odd sort of way, thanks to director Jeannot Szwarc’s resourcefulness and Jerry Goldsmith’s foreboding score. I also dig the fact that Supergirl and Dunaway spend half the movie fighting over a dopey stud muffin (Hart Bochner). With Helen Slater in the title role (doing her damnedest).
