James Spader plays a… well, let’s say he plays a big pussy who lets people push him around and shit all over him. But then he meets Rob Lowe, and Rob Lowe teaches him to stand up for himself and be more of a man. The two become friends, going out on the town and bringing babes back to Spader’s pad. And then Lowe gets all creepy on Spader, kills a chick, and frames him for her murder. That’s Bad Influence — sort of a cross between Single White Female and Pacific Heights. It’s not terribly original, but director Curtis Hanson (L.A. Confidential, Wonder Boys) gives it plenty of atmosphere and whenever I got bored, at least Rob Lowe’s gorgeous-as-fuck face was there to look at. And in one scene, after he’s been making out with two chicks at the same time, he gets out of bed and you get to see the Lowe butt. That’s worth a point or two right there. With John de Lancie.
