Cursed (2004)

There’s a good concept at the core of this Wes Craven/Kevin Williamson (Scream) collaboration — a brother and sister coming to terms with the fact that they may be werewolves. But serious werewolf fans will bemoan the cheesy Hollywood setting and the sub-par computer-animated effects. I liked Jesse Eisenberg as the brother, but Christina Ricci and pretty much the rest of the entire cast should have been replaced with older actors — does anyone buy this WB lot as TV executives and night club owners? The rest of the cast fail to leave an impression, but it’s really the script’s fault. Screenwriter Williamson must have phoned this one in. The romantic subplot between Ricci and love interest Joshua Jackson is particularly awful. I could also have done without the gypsy warning (in modern day Hollywood?), and why is Scott Baio playing himself in this movie? And why is there a Lance Bass cameo? A lot of potential with this movie, but bad decision-making mires it in mediocrity.
