Final Destination (2000)
[7]
When a high school class boards a plane for a field trip to Paris, one of the students (Devon Sawa) has a premonition that the plane will explode. He freaks out and unboards, bringing a few others with him (including Seann William Scott and Dawson’s Creek costar Kerr Smith), and sure enough — boom! But the kids find out that fate doesn’t like to be trumped. One by one, they begin dying in strange happenstance by invisible forces. You could think of Final Destination as a slasher movie without the slasher. It’s a fresh take on teen horror flicks, with some moments of genuine suspense and a handful of inventive kills. The movie’s main problem is that it peaks too early. Nothing can top the opening plane sequence, and the closer you get to the end, the more annoyingly familiar the movie becomes. With Ali Larter, Chad Donella, and Tony Todd. Directed and co-written by X-Files alumni James Wong.
