Inside (2007)

A pregnant woman waiting for the ambulance to pick her up from home must suddenly fight for her life when a scissor-wielding mad-woman invades her house with the aim of cutting her unborn baby from the womb. The concept of this French flick is unsettling enough, but what got me the most was the sheer volume of bodily fluids that ooze, drip and splash across the screen. Even the opening titles are squishy. Beatrice Dalle is scary as hell as the scissor-wielding fiend who desires Alysson Paradis’ unborn baby. I didn’t like Paradis’ character much, but her predicament was enough to keep me sympathetic to her plight. The movie is absolutely wicked in the way it repeatedly offers hope in the form of potential rescuers, all of whom meet some of the bloodiest demises you’re ever likely to see. Movies don’t make my jaw drop as often as I’d like, so I enjoyed Inside. But beware: this movie goes there, way across the line, to the highest peaks of grand guignol.
