Swimfan (2002)

Jesse Bradford and Erika Christensen star in this high school version of Fatal Attraction. Bradford already has a nice girlfriend (Shiri Appleby), a nice job helping sick people at the hospital, and a promising career as a competitive swimmer. But then he falls prey to Christensen’s wiles. The two have sex in the pool and when Bradford tries to drop Christensen and return to his normal life, she pulls out the psycho-bitch card. As he tries to repair the damage — losing girlfriend, job, and swimming career — he discovers his indiscriminate pool sex may end up costing him his life.
This works a lot better with older characters. I don’t buy that a high school girl can be quite this devious, or that any kind of failures in high school signal the end of the world. But if you can get past the fact that this was much better in 1987 with Michael Douglas and Glenn Close, and if you don’t mind the near wall-to-wall use of pop songs in the soundtrack, Swimfan is well shot and well directed, with serviceable performances from its leads. With Dan Hedaya, Jason Ritter, and James DeBello.
