The Bay (2012)
[4]
Oscar-winning director Barry Levinson (Rain Man, Good Morning Vietnam) slums it with this found footage horror flick about a small Maryland community that gets infected by mutant parasites. The core concept is a solid one, building off the real-life parasite Cymothoa, which eats away and replaces the tongues of fishes (Google some pictures if you dare!) Unfortunately, found footage movies are officially cliche and it’s virtually impossible to get an audience to suspend their disbelief for them anymore. Even if you don’t mind the found footage approach, the mystery of The Bay is pretty much solved half-way through and you spend the last half well ahead of the characters in a trek that offers too little pay-off for your investment.
