If you love creature features as much as I do, you’ll enjoy Peter Hyams’ The Relic. Penelope Ann Miller stars as an anthropologist who teams with a cop (Tom Sizemore) to stop a supernatural creature after it wreaks havoc at a Chicago museum event. The monster effects are courtesy of the late, great Stan Winston, the museum setting provides plenty of creepy atmosphere, and the cast manage to hold their own against the gore and pyrotechnics. It’s particularly a lot of fun when the monster gets loose during a gala fundraiser, and even though the CGI is some of the earliest, the effect of the monster running while on fire is pretty neat. With Linda Hunt (who can be almost as creepy as the monster, without even trying).
