Chariots of Fire (1981)
[3]
A Jew and a Christian compete in the 1924 Olympics, both running in the name of God and adversity. I’m sorry to say I just couldn’t give a shit. I couldn’t empathize with their motivations. They feel God when they run. Good for them. It would at least be nice if the two competed against one another in the third act, but they don’t. They each win their respective races and musician Vangelis works hard to make it sound ecclesiastic. Nice cinematography, a novel score, but in the end, Chariots of Fire is a dull movie about two dudes running. With Ian Holm, Sir John Gielgud, and Alice Krige.
Academy Awards: Best Picture, Best Original Screenplay, Best Costume Design, Best Score
Oscar Nominations: Best Supporting Actor (Holm), Best Film Editing, Best Director (Hugh Hudson)
