Death at a Funeral (2010)

[7]

In this remake of a British original, all hell breaks loose at a funeral where volatile secrets are revealed. There are a few raunchy moments in the remake –directed by Neil LaBute (In the Company of Men) — but the film has much more in common with the old screwball comedies of the 40s than today’s common gross-out fests. The film is sprinkled with a few memorable set pieces, and the antics build to a fun, satisfying climax.

The cast is adequate, if unbalanced. Chris Rock (also producing) surprisingly takes a low-key role, while James Marsden (Enchanted, X-Men) steals the show as the brother-in-law whose accidental acid trip brings many of the movie’s finest moments. Peter Dinklage (Game of Thrones) is the only cast member to appear in both versions of the film. With Danny Glover, Kevin Hart, Martin Lawrence, Tracy Morgan, Zoe Saldana, and Luke Wilson.
