I Saw What You Did (1965)

Director William Castle, better known for gimmicky horror flicks like The Tingler, tries his hand at a straight-forward thriller. The story centers around three girls who make a night of prank calling people and telling them, “I know who you are and I saw what you did.” Unfortunately, one of their targets is a paranoid murderer (John Ireland) who takes their joke a little too seriously. The suspense is weak, constantly undermined by the film’s odd tone — something like Alfred Hitchcock meets The Brady Bunch. I blame the precious performances of child actors and the music by (Brady Bunch composer!) Van Alexander. Somehow, Joan Crawford got herself mixed up in this mess, hamming it up in the small role of the killer’s lustful next-door neighbor.
