Two loser brothers are forced by their parents to bring dates to their sister’s wedding. Zac Efron and Adam Devine (mini-Jack Black) play the losers, channeling goofy male leads from every romantic comedy you ever saw. Anna Kendrick and Aubrey Plaza are more interesting as their crude-n-rude chosen companions. Neighbors screenwriters Brendan O’Brien and Andrew Jay Cohen can’t avoid all the pitfalls of narrative rom-coms. We still get the obligatory, sad, everyone-hates-everyone third quarter of the movie. And the turning points for all the characters are as forced as ever. But the script moves briskly and does a decent job keeping the proceedings light-hearted and fun. Alice Wetterlund is memorable as the cousin who tries to get in all the girls’ pants and Sugar Lyn Beard steals the show as the boys’ little sister, especially when she’s receiving an orgasmic massage. With Stephen Root, Stephanie Faracy, and Sam Richardson.
