The Men Who Stare at Goats (2009)
[6]
This screwy comedy about top secret military psychics is based (to questionable extent) on truth. While the ramifications of the subject matter is provocative, the film wisely overlooks them to revel in the absurdity of it all. By its end, The Men Who Stare at Goats becomes downright whimsical. There’s a scant plot with a hazy focus, but that’s okay. The reason to watch this movie is to see some very good actors cut loose for a while. George Clooney and Kevin Spacey make the most of the opportunity, but Jeff Bridges, as a free-spirited substance-abusing hippie, steals the show. Ewan McGregor is all right as the (comparatively) straight man of the bunch, but I wish he had better chemistry with Clooney.
