Tarzan’s Savage Fury (1952)

[5]

Tarzan is tricked into guiding smugglers to a village of dangerous natives who guard a secret stash of diamonds in Tarzan’s Savage Fury. Lex Barker’s penultimate swing in the loincloth is the first to dabble with the Greystoke lineage and the second to feature Boy (Tommy Carlton), though this incarnation of Boy is not a blood relative to Tarzan or Jane (Dorothy Hart). I like the early scenes where Tarzan and Boy talk about being orphans and start to bond, and there’s a nice moment later on where Tarzan looks into the jungle and seems to feel remorse about his past. It’s not much mind you, but I love when these kiddie serials show any depth at all. Real elephants were employed during the filming, but a showdown with two rhinos is depicted with some of the worst rear-projected stock photography ever.
